The Colombo Municipal Council has named a section of 10th Lane, Colombo 3 as ‘Chinmaya Lane’ due to efforts made by Gayathri Wickramasinge who has been a long- term devotee of the Chinmaya Mission. She went door-to-door to convince the people about Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji.

They consented to the name change and it was gazetted. Ex-President of the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka, Mahenthiran, the resident Acharya Swami Gunatitananda ji and other executive members of the mission appreciated her efforts.

Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji’s Sankalpa, when he visited Sri Lanka in 1980 set up a spiritual centre in Ramboda. The Chinmaya Mission Sri Lanka led by Sri. D. Eassuwaren and other devotees built a temple here.

This temple in a picturesque setting facing the kotmale dam is now a monument where a 16ft statue of Hanuman is the Moola Moorthi. Meanwhile, Gayathri participated in the international conference for overseas Indians in Guadalope, South America where she received the Mahatma Gandhi award for deserving youth working in community development.

She was the only participant to be selected by the Government of India for the ‘Know India programme’. The Indian High Commission in its journal ‘Sandesh’, published her article on her Indian experience.
