News NDC India Delegation Arrives

An 18-member delegation of National Defence College (NDC) India undergraduates arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday (18), Sri Lanka Army (SLA) said. The delegation comprises officers of the Armed Forces of the US, Iran, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Japan under training at the NDC. They will stay in Sri Lanka with their accompanying spouses till Saturday (23). Major General Hari B. Pillai who is leading the delegation called on SLA Commander General Shavendra Silva at SLA Headquarters, Sri Jayewardenepura at this occasion. 

The delegation was welcomed by Brigadier Kapila Dolage, Director Training and Brigadier Shantha Ranaweera, Director Operations. Silva and Pillai exchanged mementoes at this event. Following this, Major General Priyankara Fernando, Director General, General Staff at SLA Headquarters conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the SLA, its history, current roles and tasks. Also present at this occasion were Chief of Staff Major General Priyantha Perera, Deputy Chief of Staff Sampath Kotuwegoda and Commandant SLA Volunteer Force Major General Vikum Liyanage. 

The delegation was due to tour Jaffna yesterday (20) where they were to meet with Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna and the memorial dedicated to the fallen IPKF troops in Palaly. They are also scheduled to visit Anuradhapura and Trincomalee.
