The ‘Digital Citizenship’ campaign initiated by the National Christian Evangelical Alliance Sri Lanka (NCEASL), through its platform Minor Matters, is attempting to combat fake news, by educating citizens.

In this regard, a comic book, which has been designed targeting schoolchildren, depicts the impact of fake news on victims and thereby encourages responsible online behaviour on the part of online users, to refrain from sharing incomplete information, as it could also give inaccurate information to the public.

Also, a toolkit to educate the public, in particular youth, on how to identify fake news, so that they do not spread them, has been designed and it elaborates on the types of fake news, such as disinformation, misinformation and malinformation.
