There has been a decrease in blood reserves at the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) in the last two weeks due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, NBTS Director Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe said.
He said the NBTS has decided to embark on a special programme to increase blood reserves in the next two weeks. To make it a success, Dr. Edirisinghe called on donors and blood donation camp organisers to increase blood reserves.
He said donors could donate blood at 107 blood centres islandwide, following health guidelines issued by health authorities. Dr. Edirisinghe further said if a blood donation camp is to be organised in accordance with health regulations, it could be organised in low risk areas by obtaining instructions from Public Health Inspectors.
Meanwhile, donors are requested to call the 24-hour hotlines, 011 5332153/ 011 5332154 or visit the website, www.nbts.life, to get an appointment.
