SL Navy seizes stock of Kerala Ganja worth Rs. 71M
Sri Lanka Navy took into custody, three individuals along with a stock of 237.5kg of Kerala cannabis and a dinghy boat today (14) in the seas off Point Pedro.
The street value of this haul of cannabis is about Rs. 71 million.
The special operation was carried out by the Northern Naval Command.
Base on a tip-off received from the suspects, the Navy and Coast Guard found six more sacks thrown overboard by the suspects upon further search in the sea area.
A total of eigh sacks of cannabis were seized in the operation.
It is suspected that the consignment of Kerala cannabis was transferred to the dinghy at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) with the intention of smuggling them into the country.
The suspects, residents of Point Pedro and Achchuweli aged 28 to 29 years, will be handed over to the Kankesanthurai Police along with the Kerala Cannabis.
Meanwhile, the Navy and Coast Guard are carrying out further search in the sea area.
