Indian trawlers slams into Navy ship before sinking

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) organized a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation last night to search for a sunken Indian fishing boat and its fishermen, in Sri Lankan waters.
SLN patrol units attempted to seize Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters after observing more than 50 such trawlers.
In an attempt to resist the arrest and flee, one of the Indian trawlers aggressively maneuvered, colliding with an SLN Craft, and eventually sank following the collision.
The collision caused damages to the SLN Craft which was brought to Kankesanthurai harbor for repairs.
The SLN SAR operation is being augmented by a diving team as well as SLN ships and crafts, in the sea area where the incident occurred.
The SLN has previously informed Indian authorities to make Indian fishermen aware of the possible dangers of resisting arrest with aggressive maneuvers. Meanwhile, relevant Indian authorities have also been informed of the current operation and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
