Nature’s Secrets to donate 100,000 Medicinal Plants and 5M seeds
Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd (NBC), winner of Sri Lanka’s highest environmental award ‘National Green Award-Gold’ has committed to donate over 100,000 medicinal plants and five million medicinal plant seeds for environment protection efforts island wide by 2025 as part of their Sirilaka Osu Uyanak Karamu Project.
As part of its ambitious project, NBC recently donated 2,000 medicinal plants, including those that are endemic and vulnerable, to the Ministry of Environment’s Sadhaharitha Hetak campaign.
More than 30,000 plants will continue to be donated within 2021 for environment initiatives of the Ministry of Environment, as well as for reforestation efforts in the Nilgala Forest Reserve in Moneragala, to selected schools, and islandwide reforestation and environment protection efforts by the Army, Police, Agriculture Department and Forestry Department. A unique feature of the initiative is that the medicinal plants for distribution are all grown within the company’s own medicinal plant garden by the company’s Agriculture department.
“Protecting nature and its biodiversity has always been of utmost importance to our company. Our tiny island is one of the world’s 36 biodiversity hotspots, meaning it is one of Earth’s most biologically diverse yet threatened terrestrial areas. Therefore, we feel we must do our very best to conserve this remarkable biodiversity of our island,” commented Samantha Kumarasinghe, Managing Director of Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd.
