National team stunned by U-23 Juniors

The Under- 23 Juniors (combined team) led by Shabeer Razooniya created one of the biggest upsets in the Sri Lanka Football arena when they registered a thrilling 2-1 win over the National football team in a practice match played on Saturday (12).

Shenal Sandesh and Sasanka Dilhara netted the goals for the Juniors, while the experienced Asikoor Rahuman scored the only goal for the National side.

Before head coach Amir Alagic took over the national team, passages of play like this have occurred way too often in the past few matches in their World Cup qualification campaign, so much so that it somewhat defines the current state of the team.

While Alagic’s approach must be appreciated, it is not yielding the desired results for the national side, giving rise to a host of problems for the Golden Lions.  However, the national team is yet to take the field under the new head coach in the international arena.
