National security seriously threatened – Perera
By Nabiya Vaffoor
National security was seriously threatened during the 52-day government, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Chief Executive, Ajith P. Perera said. “During the 52-day Government, the then President took away the powers with regard to defence and never returned them to the relevant authorities.
Those who represent the current Government were those who helped the former President in that endeavour,” he added. Speaking on the ‘Black Sunday’ protest declared by the Archdiocese of Colombo, Perera stressed that it is President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s responsibility to find out who was behind the Easter Attacks.
“It is clear that there was some political force behind this attack. If this isn’t brought to light, our country will have to face similar unfortunate incidents in the future. The masterminds may attack the public for their own political benefits,” Perera cautioned. As long as these masterminds are not exposed, there will always be a threat to national security, he said, and added that just filing a case against former President Maithripala Sirisena was not enough to ensure national security.
Perera was speaking at a Media briefing yesterday (7), at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo.
