N’Eliya fears COVID infected visitors

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Nandana Galabada has instructed the Nuwara Eliya Police to immediately repatriate visitors who travel to Nuwara Eliya from other provinces as travel between provinces has been banned due to COVID-19. COVID infection and mortality rates in the Nuwara Eliya District are currently declining, however, Infections may increase if travel restrictions are not adhered to.

 "I have instructed the Police to repatriate those who come here, based on information received.” The number of visitors to Nuwara Eliya from other districts of the Central Province is also increasing. 

This must be prevented, said Galabada. The District Secretary said that the number of visitors to Nuwara Eliya is higher than on normal days and therefore he has advised operators to legally run hotels and inns in Nuwara Eliya adhering to health precautions and not to hold banquets. Galabada also said that the Health Department has been informed to monitor whether the visitors to Nuwara Eliya are following healthcare guidelines.
