The brother of the 16-year-old girl, who succumbed to burn injuries sustained while serving as a domestic aide at the residence of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, Thiru Prasad, has revealed that his sister was, in fact, illiterate in English.

He made this revelation in relation to the writing that was found on the walls of the deceased's room at the former Minister's residence yesterday (02).

Following a visit to the SJB MP's residence yesterday, Police discovered a Tamil phrase scribbled in English letters on the walls of the 16-year-old girl’s room, which briefly translate to ‘the cause of my death’.

The deceased had only attended school till the 7th grade, Thiruprasad said, adding that he too, did not know the meaning of the statement that was found on the wall.

Police Media Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana noted this morning (03), that school books, believed to have been used by the deceased, along with pictures of the note on the wall are to be sent to Government Analyst Department and a graphologist, in order to verify whether the note was written by the girl.
