The PlayStation 5 is now available and it has made all the console gamers worldwide excited for the next generation of gaming. The PlayStation 5 was officially launched in November 2020 and since then people have been trying to get their hands on it like maniacs. Thanks to the pandemic and chip shortages, the price of the PlayStation 5 has skyrocketed due to limited stocks and it is difficult to get hold of one for many people.

You might be wondering, what’s the hype about the PS5? Well, I got my PlayStation 5 some time ago and have been gaming on it daily, so I can tell you about my experience and what all the hype is all about. The PlayStation 5 stands out this generation due to its modern design and exclusive games that are going to make the console appealing to a lot more people than the competitive Xbox Series X. Unlike previous console generations, this time around, there is so much less hype around the Xbox, mainly due to the lack of exclusive game titles. I made some videos on this topic before in my channel so for more information; you can find that video by going to www.youtube.com/androdollar or by searching YouTube for ‘Andro Dollar PlayStation 5’.

Coming back to the topic at hand, I have to be honest, the pre-ordering system of the PS5 was a mess and it still is a mess! Yes, it might have been due to the demand for the item but 6 months after the original release, it’s still quite chaotic. The prices of consoles are nowhere near the prices originally quoted by Sony. For example, the official price of the PlayStation 5 for the digital edition is $399 and the disk edition is $499. However, in Sri Lanka for example, the disk edition is sold for nearly

Rs 200, 000 or sometimes way more, which is near twice as much as Sony’s official price. This makes a lot of gamers grumpy but some dedicated gamers were able to grab hold of a PS5 for themselves by paying a hefty sum. The same case applies for the accessories and some high-demand games too.

Luckily, I was able to get my PlayStation 5 using which I did an unboxing video for my channel, and in that, I showcased everything you get with it. In short, you get the console nicely wrapped, the latest PS5 dual sense wireless controller, stand with the screw, all the cables, which includes the power cable and a high-speed HDMI 2.1 cable, and of course the paperwork! When I unboxed my PS5, the first thing that wowed me was the design of this! You can see my reaction in my video too. I was genuinely happy to see this unique design. In-person, I think this design lives up to the renders and I’m a huge fan of this. This is the type of design you would want to proudly showcase in your TV room, rather than hiding it inside a drawer somewhere because it looks so modern, and nice! I like the fact that the entire PS5 lineup including accessories carries the same design language. The only bad thing with this design is that it is all white and it catches a lot of dirt soon. I have to clean my controllers at least once a week to keep them looking brand new! Not only does the design look good but the design has extremely small PS icons embedded in it on both the body as well as controllers. That really shows the attention to detail Sony has put into the PS5.

I got some great games with the PS5 including the flagship PS5 games, as well as some of the best PS 4 hits. Some of the PS5 games I got are Spiderman Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, Call of Duty Black ops Cold War, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition, FIFA 21 NXT Level Edition, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, NBA 2K21 Mamba Edition, and more. I bought only a few games on disks and the rest of them I bought as digital editions from the PlayStation store itself. Sony actually has a good deal when you buy a PS5 and buy a PS+ subscription you get 20 PS4 hits for FREE! These include Hits from the last generation like Uncharted 4, Last of Us Remastered, Mortal Kombat X, Battlefield 1, God of War, Days Gone, and a bunch more. I recommend anyone who buys a PS5 in the first year to go for this superb deal because not only are these games free, but they are also optimised for PS5 which means games load fast and have better graphics too. That’s the first thing I did as soon as I got my PS5 setup.

Right now, my biggest issue with the PS5 is storage space. I maxed out the internal SSD in just 2 days after installing the latest PS5 games, and I had to plug an external 2TB drive to install all the PS4 titles. Yes, these are all digital but it works well therefore, I had no issue. Sony enabled the facility for us to transfer PS5 games to an external drive with a new software update but it has to be moved back to the main drive to play a game therefore, it doesn’t really solve the problem. However, I can’t wait to see Sony releasing the SSD expansion drives soon as the PS5 has a slot inside for that, it’s just that it is not enabled at this point as there aren’t any compatible drives available yet. I just hope it won’t be priced insanely though because people like me with a lot of games prefer to have access to all of it ready to go at any time.

Along with the PS5, there are a bunch of accessories you can pick up too, like an extra controller, dual controller charging dock, Pulse 3D wireless headset, PS5 Media remote, etc., and I got these too which have enhanced my PlayStation experience thus far. Like I mentioned before I like how these are streamlined with the design language of the PS5 which makes it quite attractive.

If you game on PlayStation, feel free to add me by searching for ‘AndroDollar’, and maybe we can game sometime?
