Musthapha in ironic twist
In an ironic twist, former Minister President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha, has sought the opinion of the Sri Lanka Jewish Federation (SLJF), on the decision taken by the health authorities to mandatorily cremate all COVID-19 diseased.
In response, SLJF has said, “This is in response to your query as to the position of the Sri Lanka Jewish Federation on mandatory cremations. The following is the position of the Federation on the matter, as articulated on its behalf by D.L. Perera, who is the officer in charge of the matter within our community.
“The Sri Lankan Jewish Federation welcomes the report on the matter issued by the Government-appointed expert committee, chaired by Prof. Jennifer Perera, pointing out that cremations need not be mandatory, and calls upon the Ministry of Health to adopt the report and thereby resume the choice of burials for the families affected.”
However, it must be noted that Musthapha, PC, throughout his political career has been striving to block Sri Lanka’s diplomatic and friendly relations with the State of Israel, which is the only Jewish-majority and explicitly Jewish State in the world.
