A tense situation arose at the Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World pageant held in Colombo last night (04) when the crown was removed from the winner by Mrs. World 2020 and outgoing Mrs. Sri Lanka, Caroline Jurie.

The event was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre on Sunday.

Contestant number 20, Pushpika De Silva was announced as the winner in the presence of Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Rosy Senanayake, and Chandimal Jayasinghe.

However, as the winner was being crowned concerns were raised amongst a group of invitees at the event, claiming that she was a divorcee.

Reigning Mrs. World, Caroline Jurie subsequently made an announcement that Pushpika De Silva was ineligible for the crown, owing to a rule that the winner of the title must be married and that she has therefore decided to crown the first-runner up as the new winner.

Caroline Jurie then stripped the crown off of Contestant number 20 and proceeded to crown the first-runner up as the new Mrs. Wolrd 2021, claiming that she was the true winner of the night.

A tense situation later arose as the event drew to a close.
