Mother of 9 month old remanded
The mother of the 9-month-old boy who was arrested for brutally assaulting the child in the Ariyalai area in Jaffna has been remanded until March 09.
The order was issued by Jaffna Magistrate Peter Paul, according to our correspondent.
Following a video of a woman assaulting a child on social media, the woman was arrested by the Jaffna Nallur Child Protection Authority and the Jaffna Police yesterday (02), and produced before the Jaffna Magistrate today (03).
Despite the 24-year-old arrestee's claims that she had been depressed as her husband had not given her the money she needed to live in Kuwait, locals around the woman's house said that they had heard the baby crying after having been beaten on multiple occasions.
However, after presenting the 9-month-old baby and its mother to the Jaffna Magistrate's Court, Jaffna Magistrate Peter Paul ordered that the mother be placed on probation with the baby until the 9th of next month and that the mother submit a psychiatric report.
