Most Ven. Makulewe Wimala Thera appointed

Chief Incumbent of the Meerigama, Minioluwa Vidyawasa Pirivena, Adhikarana Sangha Nayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya, Aggamaha Panditha Shasthrapathi, Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Nayake Thera has been appointed as Mahanayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya which fell vacant with the passing away of Most Venerable Napane Pemasiri Nayake Thera.
This had been a unanimous decision made by the Sangha Sabha committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya held yesterday (22).
This monk was born second in a family of ten on 28 August 1948, to Herath Mudiyanselage Punchirala and Imirala Mudiyanselage Kiri Menike in the village of Makulewa located close to Galgamuwa in the Kurunegala District. He received his basic education at the Nithalawa Vidyalaya and subsequent to the demise of Rajakeeya Panditha Nithalawa Sri Gnaneswara Nayake thero, who was incumbent at the Minioluwa Vidyawasa Pirivena, on 24 March 1960, the monk was ordained. He received higher ordination on 22 July 1969 at the Udakukketha Seema Malakaya on the Kelani River.
His teachers were Panditha Nugadeniye Dhammananda, Pidume Rathana, Mahopadhya Kumbukwewe Vijithasena and Loluwagoda Gnanarathana Theras.
He obtained the Tripitakavedi Degree from the Anuradhapura Buddha Shrawaka University and subsequently the Shasthravedi Degree from the Kelaniya University.
