More than 70,000 breath analyzers to catch drunk drivers
Police have commenced a special operation for the festive season to arrest drunk drivers beginning today (10).
More than 70,000 breathalyzers worth over Rs. 40 million has been handed over by the Traffic Police Headquarters to all police stations islandwide.
Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the Traffic Police Headquarters has another 65,000 breathalyzers if required.
The New Year season has shown an increase in road accidents, most of which have been due to drunk driving, leading to an increase in traffic operations during this season.
