More showers to be expected – Met Dept

The Meteorology Department yesterday (29) predicted that showers or thundershowers can be expected in most parts of the country after 1:00 PM today (30).
Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places of Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Western and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts. The Meteorology Department also warns of temporary heavy winds and lightning strikes and advises the public to take adequate precautionary measures in such event to minimise the possible damages.
Showers or thundershowers could occur at times in the deep and shallow seas from Bentota extending Hambantota via Galle and Matara. Showers or thundershowers could occur in the other seas surrounding the island in the evening or night.
She said that wind velocity is expected to be from 20 to 30 kmph in the seas surrounding the island. Wind velocity is expected from Easterly or South Easterly direction in the seas from Trincomalee extending to Colombo via Kankesanthurai, Mannar and Puttalam.
Wind velocity is expected to be from South Westerly or variable directions in other seas surrounding the Island. Wind velocity is expected to be increased up to 45 kmph at times in the seas from Trincomalee extending to Mannar via Kankesanthurai. These seas would remain fairly turbulent at times. Temporary gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during the thundershowers.
