Modi-Mahinda to hold summit-level meeting virtually
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is due to meet Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa via a virtual platform on 26 September for an India-Sri Lanka summit-level meeting.
The meeting will be held to discuss bilateral and regional issues of the two countries.
This is the first time that Modi will be holding such a meeting with a leader from the regional neighbourhood.
The Indian Government is also due to address the United Nations General Assembly on the same day, highlighting the importance of its 'Neighbours first' foreign policy.
The two countries have been engaged in various bilateral projects including the East Container Terminal (ECT) project in Colombo and the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) project.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a five-member Committee to examine and report on the concerns regarding the development these two projects.
