Modernising a must in the education system
By Thameenah Razeek
Minister of Education, Professor G.L. Peiris said that the education system has not been modernised for a long time, and as a result, there is a huge gap between modern employment opportunities and the education that students receive.
That is why people have historically hated and despised the existing social system, and therefore, the implementation of educational reform, including curricula reform is a national responsibility, he stated.
Addressing a recent event, he said, the President has expanded the role of the Ministry of Education with four State Ministries by amalgamating a number of separate institutions in the National Policy Action Plans for Country Building with a view to further building the human resources, which are our assets for the development of the country.
He further said, the views and suggestions of all sections of the society at district level will be sought in the implementation of education reforms.
The Ministry stated, the preview of proposed educational reforms should be introduced to the education system from pre-school education onwards.
Prof. Peiris also expressed hope, environmentalists would lend their support to the education system.
