Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday (21) slammed the Government over the missing NMRA Data issue. He claimed that public security will be compromised when the authorities claim that the deletion of NMRA data was a mistake committed by an engineer at a private company.
Raising a question,in Parliament, under the Standing Order 27/2, the Opposition Leader said, “This is highly suspicious. The NMRA is responsible for the quality and the security of the medicines used by the general public. It plays a key role related to the medicines approved in Sri Lanka. Now, this deletion of data comes when the health security of the nation is very crucial. This is very suspicious.”
Speaking further, Premadasa demanded the Government to reveal the information discovered through the on-going investigations, into the deletion of data, to Parliament immediately. “We understand that the CERT has given a report on the matter. Will you table that report in Parliament? Will you accept this was a conspiracy of the ‘Medical Mafia’? Also, why does the ICTA try to place the whole blame on a private company?” he queried.
Moreover, Premadasa said that the Government should give an explanation as to how such a deletion had taken place. “This is not a simple thing. It says that databases at other Government agencies are also at risk. As a result, the public security will also be compromised,” he stressed.
