Military training for youth above 18: Attempt to militarise country – Manusha Nanayakkara

By Nabiya Vaffoor
Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara’s proposal to give military training for youth above the age of 18 could be seen as an attempt to militarise the country, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Manusha Nanayakkara alleged.
“The Government has appointed military personnel to top posts such as Ministry Secretaries and attempts are underway to appoint them to other key State bodies as well. The Government has failed to fulfil its promises and was now attempting to militarise the entire country to protect their hold. Everyone is not required to undergo military training to gain disciplined leadership qualities” he added.
Nanayakkara alleged that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has become no a leader who cannot tolerate being questioned or being criticised. Nanayakkara expressed these views, yesterday (18) at a Media briefing at the Opposition Leader’s office.
