Meteorology Dept. warns of coastal inundation
The Department of Meteorology cautions that wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the Southern province and in the Polonnaruwa, Mannar, Trincomalee and Matale districts. The wind speed can go up along the western slopes of the central hills as well.
The Department, in its latest weather forecast issued at 12 noon today (1), further warned that coastal inundation is likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle. The Department requested the people living in coastal areas to be vigilant in this regard.
Showers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Several spells of showers will occur in the North-Western province.
According to the Meteorology Department, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province in the evening or night.
Fairly heavy rainfalls about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
