Met dept warns of further bad weather
The Meteorology Department yesterday (19) warned that showers or thundershowers could be expected today (20) after 2.00 p.m. in few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Southern and Central Provinces.
Showers or thundershowers can be expected in the morning in the Western Province, Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy showers up to 75 millimetres can be expected in a few places of Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
Misty conditions can be expected in many places in Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces in the morning and motorists have been asked to be vigilant while travelling via these regions.
Possible heavy winds and lightning strikes are expected.
These conditions could prevail in a few places in the deep and shallow seas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambantota.
Wind velocity is expected to be from 30 to 40 kmph from South Westerly direction around the island and expected to increase from 40 to 45 kmph at times in the seas from Galle extending to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar. The seas here could remain turbulent, and the fishermen and marine workers have been asked to be vigilant while navigating via these regions. (NJ)
