Mendis, Gunathilaka, Dickwella Face Long Ban
Sri Lanka cricketers Kusal Mendis and Dhanushka Gunathilaka have been recommended to be banned for two years from all forms of cricket, along with a fine of US$ 25,000, for breaching the bio-bubble while on the England tour.
Niroshan Dickwella has also been recommended 18 months suspension from all forms of cricket, and a fine of US$ 25,000. The decision was taken by a 5-member committee appointed to conduct a disciplinary inquiry into the actions of the cricketers while in England.
The decision taken last afternoon by the Committee requires to be ratified by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Executive Committee. Investigations were launched by SLC after a video was circulated on social media showing the three Sri Lankan cricketers roaming the streets of Durham on 27 June. The cricketers were considered to have breached the bio-bubble in which they were placed.
The incident created a buzz on social media, with many cricket fans criticizing the behaviour of the cricketers. The decision taken at the inquiry will have a bearing on the future of the three cricketers with regard to the National team.
