Medical equipment exempted from PAL

The Government has exempted the Ports and Airports Development Levy (PAL) in respect of the import or import and supply of medical instruments and equipment including test kits required for the provision of health services by any agency with effect from Tuesday (27)

The order in this connection was gazetted after markets closed on the previous day Monday (26 October). The aforesaid PAL exemption is subject to the recommendations of the Health Ministry Secretary followed by Treasury Secretary’s approval, it said.  This new exemption follows the Government, previously, that is, with effect from Saturday (24 October), exempted PAL in respect of the importation of pharmaceutical machinery and equipment, including accessories and spare parts for pharmaceutical machinery and equipment imported by pharmaceutical manufacturers for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
