FT Measures taken to minimise ITT delay

Severe traffic congestion arose within the Port of Colombo (PoC) due to the construction of the elevated highway, on pillars running through the Port, connecting the Port City, parallel to the development of the national highway system, posing issues for Inter Terminal Trucking (ITT) of containers within the Port. However, prompt action was taken to demolish a part of the boundary wall of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) container yard and a temporary gate was set up to facilitate ITT.

Timely instructions given by Chairman of SLPA, Capt. Nihal Keppetipola enabled the issue to be brought under control. The new gate using converted port cabins facilitates inter terminal trucking between the terminals in the Port and is operated under the supervision of the Director (Operations), Lal Weerasinghe. These measures have solved the terminal trucking delay issue and prompt measures taken to resolve the matter have been commended by the CICT, SAGT, Shipping Agents, and other stakeholder institutions of the Port.
