Mangala, Champika et al avoiding PCoI

Former MPs Mangala Samaraweera and Patali Champika Ranawaka, and several others were named as persons evading the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed to probe political victimisation of public officials during the tenure of the United National Front-led Government.
Chairman of the PCoI, retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Upali Abeyratne instructed to name those individuals, together with MPs Rauff Hakeem, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, President’s Counsel M.A. Sumanthiran, R. Sampanthan and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and former MP Malik Samarawickrama, for failing to comply with the notice issued to appear before the PCoI yesterday (26).
Further, former Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), President’s Counsel Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, President’s Counsels J.C. Weliamuna and Dr. Jayampathy Wickremaratne and the former Director of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Ananda Wijepala were also named as individuals evading the PCoI. The said individuals were issued notice to appear before the PCoI yesterday as respondents to complaints filed by Chief Inspector of Police, Tissa Pilapitiya and retired Army Major General Palitha Fernando. Meanwhile, Dias Wickramasinghe had filed a motion requesting for an additional period of seven days to appear before the PCoI, which Abeyratne rejected.
