Colombo High Court Judge Namal Balalle on Monday (1) deferred further hearing of the fraud case against motor racing ace Dilantha Malagamuwa and two others to 7 June.

Three persons, including Malagamuwa, have been charged, in the High Court, with defrauding a Japanese national to the tune of USD 600,000 towards the construction of a luxury housing complex.

Defence lawyer Jeewantha Jayathileke told Justice Balalle that his client needs to participate in a motor racing championship being held in a few countries during that time and though the Court has not impounded Malagamuwa’s passport, they would inform the Court and seek permission for his client to go overseas.

Counsel Jayathileke urged the Court to grant permission for the trial to proceed on 7 June sans the participation of his client.

Taking the submissions into consideration the Judge accepted the request made by the defence and fixed further hearing of the case to the said date.

The other two accused are G. Sivajothi and Vijitha Bandara.
