The main suspect, in the murder of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Councillor, Ranjan de Silva, was arrested in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

De Silva was the father of cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva.

Police Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana, said the main suspect, Dharmasiri Perera, was arrested by Interpol on 29 November and Interpol had informed its Sri Lankan branch regarding the arrest.

While stating that three suspects are in custody in connection with the murder, DIG Rohana said the main suspect had fled the country after committing the crime.

The Mount Lavinia Police Division SSP had conducted investigations in this regard, and obtained a warrant from Court, following which a request was made to Interpol to issue a Red Notice on the main suspect.

Acting on the Red Notice, the Abu Dhabi Police arrested Perera. The Sri Lankan Police are in the process of extraditing Perera.

Ranjan de Silva was shot dead in Ratmalana on 24 May 2018.
