Mahela to be appointed mentor for SL at T20 WC?
Discussions are underway to recruit former skipper Mahela Jayawardene as a mentor for Sri Lanka Cricket for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to begin from 17 October in the UAE, Ceylon Today learns. It is also learnt if the ongoing talks with Mahela is successful, the Sri Lankan team led by Dasun Shanaka will receive a major boost when they head for the big picture in UAE.
Jayawardene’s record as a coach is stupendous, to say the least, while being in charge of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2017. During his stint, MI have won three IPL titles. He was also the coach of the champion team Southern Brave in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, which won the championship beating Birmingham Phoenix in the final. Jayawardene is currently in UAE for the IPL. He is also working with the Sri Lanka U-19 team as a consultant coach.
