Lorry driver in Hakgala fatal collision remanded

The driver of a lorry involved in an accident that left three dead in Hakgala, was arrested in Matale and remanded till 20 April, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The driver had fled the scene following the accident on 1 April and Nuwara Eliya Police had been on the lookout for the driver. He was arrested on 6 April. The accident had occurred between a lorry and a three-wheeler. The three-wheeler had been travelling from Nuwara Eliya to Welimada and the lorry had been following close behind, when the accident had taken place. DIG Rohana stated the lorry driver was at fault for the crash and had gone missing following the accident. Three women, who were travelling in the three-wheeler, died in the accident. DIG Rohana added that the three-wheeler driver is receiving treatment at the Nuwara Eliya Hospital, following serious injuries as a result of the accident.
The driver was produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate and has been remanded till 20 April. Nuwara Eliya Police is conducting further investigations.
