Long distance train services to resume today

The Department of Railways (SLR) has decided to resume long distance train services that were suspended due to the COVID -19 pandemic from today (18), General Secretary of Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union (SLSMU), Kasun Chamara said.
The SLSMU said it had a discussion with Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena and following the discussion agreed to implement the long distance train services following proper health guidelines.
Accordingly, four trains will run between Colombo Fort, Badulla and Kandy on the main line. In addition, two trains will run between Colombo Fort and Kankesanthurai and two between Mount Lavinia and Kankesanthurai on the Northern line.
Two trains will run between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa on the Batticaloa line while a total of four trains will run on the Coastal line. Arrangements have also been made to allow the reservation of seats on these trains, Chamara said.
