Legal action has been instituted against over 1,000 traders who sold rice at higher rates, during the last two weeks, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.

CAA Director, Asela Bandara, said around 100 raids were conducted island-wide daily.

The CAA pointed out that the maximum retail prices of Rs 96 per 1 kg of Nadu rice, Rs 98 per 1 kg of Samba rice and Rs 93 per 1 kg of Kekulu rice have been set by the Government.

However, the controlled price imposed on Keeri Samba has been removed.
