Leave home according to last digit of NIC
By Sandeep Tissaaratchy
A system for individuals to leave their homes, according to the last digit of the Passport, Driving Licence or National Identity Card (NIC) has been introduced from today (13), Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Apart from reporting for work purposes and essential services, DIG Rohana said all persons who wish to purchase goods are only able to do so based on the last digit of the Passport, Driving Licence or NIC number. Accordingly, those whose ID numbers end with 2,4,6,8,0 (even numbers) are permitted to leave their homes on even days and persons with 1,3,5,7,9, (odd numbers) will be permitted to leave their homes on odd days.
DIG Rohana urged the public to always carry their NIC when leaving the home and added that if an individual does not possess an NIC or a Driving Licence, they are permitted to use the Passport.
If none of these documents are available, DIG Rohana said a letter from the Grama Niladhari identifying the individual as a resident of the area will be required. All foreigners are allowed to use a recognised Passport or Driving Licence as a form of identification when travelling. The Police urged the public to follow the guidelines and added that legal action will be taken against anyone who does not follow the rules.
