Kanjipani Imran’s 6-year sentence to be served in three years

The Appeal Court ruling on the appeal made by noted gangster Kanjipani Imran, was read out before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta yesterday (25). Kanjipani Imran had been sentenced to six years in jail, by the High Court, on pleading to possessing and selling ganja. The Appellate Court has ruled that Kanjipani Imran complete his term of six years RI in three years.
Accordingly, High Court Judge Thotawatta ordered the Registrar of the Court to take steps to send the ruling of the Court of Appeal to the Boossa Prison, where the convict is presently detained. The Attorney General had indicted the gangster, before the High Court, on 13 September, three years ago, on charges of possession and selling of 5.5 kg of Ganja in the Maligawatta area and Imran had pleaded guilty to the charges and was jailed for six years on 23 August, two years ago. However, the convict had subsequently moved the Court of Appeal to reduce his sentence.
