Kahantota Suddha and five gangsters arrested

The Athurugiriya Police Anti-Corruption Unit yesterday (20) said they arrested five suspects including Kahantota Suddha for allegedly robbing Rs 1.5 million in cash and gold jewellery while masquerading as Police officers.
Police had commenced investigations from various angles in connection with Kahanthota Suddha based on a complaint by a young woman that her gold chain was stolen by the suspect who had shown her a sharp knife in the Mullegama area in Habarakada, Homagama.
The suspects travelled on motorcycles to Habarakada, Mullegama and the Sudarshana Mawatha areas in Malabe and had escaped after looting gold jewellery after forcibly entering houses in the areas. This particular gang entered a house in the Gampaha, Malwathu, Hiripitiya area, telling the woman in the house, they were Police officers and wanted to search the house. On the pretext of searching, the suspects had escaped with
Rs 600,000 cash and gold jewellery.
Investigations found that the suspects had also stolen Rs 100,000 worth of grocery items from a lorry. Suspects are residents of the Malabe and Kahanthota areas and the prime suspect Kahanthota Suddha was wanted by the Police for various offences.
A small Valampuri conch and motorcycles were also seized by Police from the suspects and it was learnt they had sold a portion of the stolen gold jewellery to a person in the Kurunegala area.
