JUST IN: Chemical fertilizer ban revoked
The government says it will revoke a gazette that bans the importation and use of chemical fertilizers.
The private sector will be allowed from today (24) to import chemical fertilizers, weedicides, and pesticides, agriculture minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told the media.
Farmers will now be able to purchase chemical fertilizers from the open market, he said.
He said however, the government’s policy to promote green agriculture would remain unchanged.
A special gazette notification to allow the importation of chemical fertilizer would be issued in the course of the day, the minister added.
