Judges withdraw from parliament appeal case vs. RTI order
The two presiding judges have withdrawn from a case filed against a Right to Information Commission order for the release of a list of MPs who have declared their assets and liabilities.
Announcing their withdrawal today (11), appeal court judges Ruwan Fernando and Sampath Wijeratne ordered the appeal by parliament be referred to the chairman of the court for him to name a new judges panel .
They also fixed the next hearing for 20 January.
A journalist, Chamara Sampath, obtained an order from the RTI for the release of the said list, against which parliament has gone to the court of appeal.
