The Joint Apparel Association Forum of Sri Lanka (JAAFSL) is considering providing a sum of approximately Rs 6.2 billion to the Sri Lanka Government to import the coronavirus prevention vaccine produced by the University of Oxford in England. Brandix Apparel Limited, owner Ashrof Omar, revealing the facts in this connection exclusively to Ceylon FT, said that JAAF wishes to distribute the vaccine among all apparel industry stakeholders and the entire workforce of nearly 350,000 free of charge.

All the big players of the industry and also the small and medium sectors are also to receive the vaccine free of charge with the support of JAAF. According to Omar, they are also in the process of discussing with other Chambers to donate towards the cost of the vaccine.

The second wave of COVID -19 in Sri Lanka started from one of the factories in Minuwangoda which belongs to a leading Apparel brand. A considerable number of staff members had been tested positive since then, thus they had to face many financial problems and the industry also had to face a considerable drop during that period.
