Interprovincial bus services to resume next week
Interprovincial public transport bus services are scheduled to resume operations on 21 October, if the travel restrictions are lifted.
State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama noted, however, that in the event the restrictions are not lifted by then, special permits will be issued for interprovincial buses.
Amunugama raised concerns over recent reports that exorbitant rates are being charged for the unauthorized transportation of passengers between provinces by certain individuals, most of whom have already been arrested.
He acknowledged the difficulties currently faced by the public, owing to the increase in prices of several essential goods, adding that the government is trying for the country's return to normalcy within the next three months.
