Inter-provincial travel restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 will be lifted from 31 October 2021 at 4.00 a.m., Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), General Shavendra Silva said. Although the quarantine curfew was lifted within provinces from 1 October 2021, inter-provincial travel restrictions remained in place since May this year in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus across provinces.

However, several amendments to the health guidelines made by the Director General Health Services (DGHS) during the past few months continue to maintain the necessity of inter-provincial travel restrictions. Also, the COVID-19 Task Force noted that they would consider lifting the travel restrictions on Thursday (21) but later decided to extend it till the end of the month.

General Silva also noted that the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine would be rolled out for frontline health workers, security forces battling the viral infection, including Police and those in the tourism sector by 1 November 2021. The Pfizer-BioNTech would be administered as the Booster jab. Frontline health workers were administered both doses of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine.
