Integrity Icons 2021: TISL crowns Covid frontline workers

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) crowned five winners of the Integrity Icons 2021 award, recognising frontline workers in the public sector who worked tirelessly to combat the spread of Covid-19. The ceremony was held on 11 January.
The recipients of the Integrity Icon 2021 awards are: C. Nishari Anurudhdhika De Silva, Grama Niladhari of Dambhaduraya, Seeduwa, Dr. Hasitha Attanayake, Director – IDH Hospital, K.G. Geethananda, Ambulance Driver – Divisional Hospital, Batapola, Nimmi Jayasekara, Infection Control Nursing Officer – District General Hospital, Embilpitiya, and Shanmugaraja Shivasri, Divisional Secretary of Thellippalai.
TISL received approximately 250 applications for the Integrity Icon award, and among them, 10 finalists were recognised for serving with honesty and integrity, beyond the call of duty. Public officials on the front lines who are permanent State employees with more than five years of experience and at least five years of service left prior to retirement were eligible to vie for Integrity Icon Sri Lanka 2021.
Meanwhile, the remaining five finalists received Certificates of recognition. Accordingly, S.H. Ameer, Public Health Field Officer – MOH Office Muttur, Dr. Indika Ellawala, MOH – MOH Office, Piliyandala, Dr. Praneeth Thommadura, District Medical Officer – District Hospital Karandeniya, K.G.G.P.K. Rathnayake, PHI – MOH Office, CMC, and Dr. Nishantha Padmalal Wedage, MOH – MOH Office, Udugama, duly received their Certificates.
The distinguished Panel of Judges included, S. Thillanadarajah, Former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Dr. S. Terrence G. R. De Silva, Former Deputy Director General (Medical Services), and Former Director of the NHSL, Dharmasiri Nanayakkara, Former Deputy Commissioner of Local Government (Chair of the Judge panel) and Dilrukshi Handunnetti, Executive Director of Centre for Investigative Reporting.
