Int’l probe into Easter Sunday Attacks: Lankans in Europe back Cardinal

By Buddhika Samaraweera
Several Sri Lankans living in European countries have expressed their willingness to provide the necessary financial support and all other facilities if the Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith decides to seek international action regarding the 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday bombing and the suspects involved.
Commenting on this, Dr. Nilanga Samarasinghe, former Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, who is currently living abroad, said they could not be satisfied with the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday bombings.
He also said they, therefore, had planned to support the Cardinal in any kind of action which would bring justice to those who were killed and injured in the bombings. Dr. Samarasinghe further said the recent protest staged by villagers in front of St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya shows that the people are not satisfied with the investigation into the Easter Sunday bombings and that only Cardinal Ranjith can intervene to take appropriate action.
He said if the Cardinal took any action internationally, he would be ready to provide the necessary funds, accommodation, air tickets, and other diplomatic arrangements.
“We have already informed him in this regard and are waiting for his prompt intervention,” he added.
