Insulting Cardinal on social media: Suspect remanded

A 43-year-old individual was arrested for making degrading statements on social media insulting Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and inciting religious hatred, especially sentiments of Buddhist, Catholic, and Christian devotees. Later, she was remanded till 2 November.
The suspect was arrested by the CID in Battaramulla, Police Media Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana said. According to the DIG, the woman had released a video on social media derogatorily mentioning Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and inciting religious hatred and animosity, especially between Buddhist, Catholic, and Christian devotees.
The CID has launched further investigations into the matter.
