COVID-19 infected Mahara Prison inmate dies

An inmate at the Mahara Prison has died at the Ragama Hospital today (23).
The PCR test conducted on the inmate after his death has confirmed that he had been infected with COVID-19, Prisons Commissioner (Administration) Chandana Ekanayake stated .
A PCR test had been conducted on the inmate before his death at the Mahara Prison; however, he had tested negative.
Ekanayake said that the deceased was an 82-year-old person who had been sentenced to life imprisonment.
So far 682 infected persons have been identified in prisons, he added.
