Indian politician urges Govt to retrieve fishermen from SL
Leader of the Indian political party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Thol Thirumavalavan has urged the Indian Government to take prompt action to bring home the two fishermen believed to be held in Sri Lanka.
Three fishermen fell aboard a sunken Indian fishing boat poaching in Sri Lankan waters northwest of the Kovilan Point Lighthouse in the North last week (18).
Two of them were rescued by the Navy, while the body of the third was recovered two days later after Navy rescue teams engaged in a search and rescue operation.
“Status of two detained fishermen is unknown. We (VCK) strongly condemn the anti-Tamil attitude of the Sri Lankan Navy. We also urge the Indian government to take prompt action to bring home the fishermen,” said Thirumavalavan, in a series of tweets.
The Sri Lanka Navy said the body of the Indian fisherman was handed over to the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) on Saturday (23).
