India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh V. Shringla who arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday (2) paid a visit to the Trincomalee oil farms yesterday (3), where he was briefed by the Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC), the Indian Oil subsidiary in Sri Lanka, on the development undertaken at the Lower  Tank Farms and the possibilities for further strengthening the India-Sri Lanka energy partnership to enhance SL’s energy security. The Indian Foreign Secretary has been holding discussions and had travelled to Jaffna.

 In March this year, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay inaugurated a 22 KL finished lube tank storage of LIOC’s Lube Blending plant and appreciated the commitment of LIOC in fulfilling the energy as well as petrochemical requirements of Sri Lanka. After visiting the oil tanks, Shringla flew to the Palaly Airport in Jaffna. He was received by Northern Provincial Council Chairman C. V. K. Sivagnanam. The Indian top official then inspected the airport that is being developed using an Indian grant. 

He also visited the Jaffna Cultural Centre, which was built with a contribution from India. Shringla who arrived in Colombo on an official visit, was welcomed by Foreign Secretary Admrl J. Colambage and the Indian High Commissioner and on the following morning, he visited the Dalada Maligawa to seek blessings and met the Diyawadana Nilame of the temple before proceeding to Trincomalee. Shringla stayed on in Jaffna and is expected to leave for New Delhi today (4).
