Environment Minister says garment imports may be banned
The import of readymade clothing will be banned in the future, said Environment Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera.
At a meeting in Hambantota recently, he stated that as the importation of batik has already been banned, banning the importation of readymade clothing would be more beneficial for the garment industries within Sri lanka.
Minister Amaraweera added that polythene lunch sheets will also be banned from next year.
He stated that this decision has been taken due to the presence of a toxic powder in between lunch sheets, which is used to separate them.
