Secretary of the Vehicle Importers’ Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) Prasad Kulathunga said as the Government has taken a decision to temporarily defer the import of vehicles, all vehicles that had been imported, had begun to sell fast.
The Government decided to temporarily put on hold the import of vehicles including motorcars with effect from 19 May, in order to manage the economic situation prompted by the spread of COVID-19.
Kulathunga said after the complete lifting of curfew and lockdown restrictions, the public had begun to purchase vehicles in droves.
He added presently there is a shortage in the vehicle market for some specialist motorcars.
